ok, we’re back to our regularly scheduled program!
it’s tuesday, january 2, & moon is in virgo, in the starspace called uttaraphalguni. virgo vibrates with the frequency of controlling as much of our life, cleaning up as much of it, as possible—which is, ya know, kind of a sysiphean task, as anyone who has ever scrubbed the kitchen floor spotless only to watch tendrils of cilantro or shreds of red cabbage besmirch it during dinner prep a mere hours later can attest to. it’s where we stand in our power to keep ourselves healthy by eating well & getting exercise, cause, um, no one is gonna do it for us.

uttaraphalguni is the star of marriage & contracts, marriage, in vedic times, being the most valued & valuable contract. it is ruled by aryaman, the god of hospitality, whose name means “life partner,” “close friend,” “partner,” or “companion.” he blesses legal agreements made between people that are based on what’s mutually beneficial, that allow each party to shine brighter as a result, as the sacred bond of marriage ideally does.
it’s the seventh lunar day (tithi), the seventh phase of the waning moon, which is ruled by the goddess shivaduti, whose name means “the messenger of shiva.” like shiva, she gives us steadiness, self-command, courage. saturn, the planetary ruler of this tithi, reminds us that time waits for no one, & keeps us on our path, doing our duty. shivaduti also teaches the value of surrender & humility, often by presenting us with situations that invite us to put on our big girl panties & big boy boxers & gender-nonconforming undies & persevere. what might that look like for you today?
tuesday is ruled by fiery mars, who is hanging out in fiery sagittarius these days. you’d think all that fire power would be explosive, but actually the sattvic (i.e., pure, not ego-driven) nature of jupiter-ruled sag is helping to focus ambitious mars on getting to the root of our beliefs rather than on acting impulsively. thank goddess, b/c there is enough impulsivity & explosiveness already at play in our world!
