it’s tuesday, january 30, & moon is in virgo, in the starspace called uttaraphalguni for just a wee bit, then hasta. virgo brings out our inner perfectionista—it’s where we pay attention to all the details of our life, to the micro, & can lose sight of the macro, of the big picture. there’s an indian parable about a group of blind men who encounter an elephant & describe their experience: one says the elephant is like a tree trunk, another a snake, another a spear, another a wall. each touched only one part & thought the part was the whole. in “bird by bird,” her book on the writing process, anne lamott says: “perfectionism is the voice of the oppressor, the enemy of the people. it will keep you cramped and insane your whole life, and it is the main obstacle between you and a shitty first draft.” how can you pay attention to the details of your life without forgetting that the point of life is to live it?
hasta (see yesterday’s post for uttaraphalguni), speaking of writing, & elephants—did you know that an elephant’s trunk is called a hasta in sanskrit?!—invites us to use our hands, our hastas, to manifest, & to remember to offer what we manifest with open palms, rather than close our fists around it & try to hold on to it, think it is us or us it. do get your hands into something or let a healer get their hands on you, & do be a vessel, let the spirit of creativity or healing flow into you & out through your hastas.
it’s the fifth lunar day (tithi), the fifth phase of the waning moon, which is ruled by the moon, who brings more creative & healing energy into the mix today—yay! this tithi supports us in transforming the formless into form, unhealth into wellness. its quality is lakshmi, giving us the ability to achieve our healing/creative goal, as long as we know what it is.
tuesday is ruled by mars, who is hanging out in sagittarius, sign of our beliefs & higher purpose, so it’s a good day to use his courage & fighting spirit to refine our beliefs, get more clarity about our higher purpose, use all the firepower of mars & sag to gain insights.
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
