it’s wednesday, january 3, & moon is in virgo, in the starspace called hasta. in the environment of virgo our inner perfectionista, our need to get “it” absolutely right, comes out to play—like, um, feeling obliged to correct the sanskrit of a mantra you download off the internet, lol! kinda like the eighth tithi (see below), our challenge is to balance opposing forces, in this case control & surrender, to, as my teacher sharon gannon always says, do our best & let god do the rest.
hasta means “hand” & is ruled by savitur, whose name means “first rays of the rising surya [sun].” this asterism brings a lesson about offering with open hands as magnanimously as the sun offers its light & warmth every day. it reminds us that we are the vehicles, not the doers, that our ceiling is the creator’s floor. it’s a good day to use our hands to make stuff & for healing purposes—paint, write, throw pots, do reiki, give or get a massage. it’s also a good day to chant (or listen to—i love deva premal’s version!) the gayatri, savitur’s special mantra to tap into the divine light within for inspiration:
ॐ भूर्भुवसुव:
तत्सवितुर्वरेन्यं
भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि
धियो यो न: प्रचोदयात्
om bhur-bhuvah suvah
tat-savitur-varenyam
bhargo devasya dhimahi
dhiyo yo nah pracodayat
“earth, space, heavens. we meditate on the divine light of the radiant source. may that inspire our hearts & thoughts.” (translation by manorama)
it’s the eighth lunar day (tithi), the eighth phase of the waning moon, which is the halfway point in its cycle, when moon is half dark, half light, half empty, half full. this tithi is ruled by the goddess tvarita, the protectress of the universe, who facilitates harmony between opposites, between the forces of darkness & light, chaos & creation—& we know that there is no creation without at least a little chaos, a little destruction, right? we can ask ourselves whether we can hold both the darkness & the light simultaneously, whether we favor one or the other, whether we can feel both half empty & half full.
wednesday is ruled by mercury, planet of curiosity & communication, who is no longer retrograde & is back in scorpio (but not for long), after a stay in sagittarius. having had time to reponder things of a philosophical nature, we are ready to talk or write about them, as always making sure we mean what we say & say what we mean.
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
