it’s thursday, january 4, & moon is in virgo, in the starspace called chitra. virgo is the sign of our routines & habits—the good ones & bad ones, the ones that support & uplevel us, the ones that do the opposite. we’re talking eating habits, exercise habits, financial habits, home maintenance habits. there is evidence to suggest that we get better outcomes when we focus on creating a new, positive habit/routine, rather than on trying to rid ourselves of an ingrained negative one. & krishnamurti agreed: “when you fight a habit,” he said, “you give life to it, & the fighting becomes another habit.” another way to put it is that where our mind goes, our energy flows. the useless thing will naturally fall by the wayside when we spend our time & energy on what’s useful.

chitra is ruled by tvashtar/vishwakarma, the cosmic architect, who literally thought objects, like rama’s flying chariot-warship, that were both useful & beautiful into manifestation. again, where the mind goes, energy flows—everything in creation starts with a thought. vishwakarma is also the ur recycler, who used his understanding of maya (illusion) to fashion something new out of something old, just as silicon, which comes from soil, is transformed into computer chips, just as steampunk merges past & future, just as designers like raffaella hanley upcycle fabric into fantastical fashions. thrift-shopping or dumpster-diving to inspire your own fantastic fabrications, anyone?

it’s technically the eighth lunar day (tithi), the eighth phase of the waning moon, but/& it becomes the ninth around 9:30 a.m. mountain time, & the energy of the nagas, divine serpents, forces of transformation, is relative to both. while the nagas rule the ninth, there are eight vasus, elemental gods of transformation, eight divine serpents, and eight matrikas, the eight forms of the divine mother that represent our shadow qualities, the ones we get to overcome to uplevel ourselves spiritually, to evolve. it’s naga/serpent energy that allows us to explore our darkness, the nooks & crannies of our subconscious, our shadows in order to transform the darkness into light, our fears & shame & regrets, our woulda-shoulds-couldas into wisdom.

thursday is ruled by jupiter, who gives us a sense of our higher purpose, which thus gives us hope, which allows us to create a more positive paradigm for our lives.

& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
