it’s wednesday, july 13, & moon is in sagittarius, moving from the starspace called purvashadha into uttarashadha midday, where it will be full about noon-thirty mountain time. sagittarius is ruled by jupiter, who happens to be known as guru, which is why this most auspicious full moon is called guru purnima, the full moon that celebrates the guru, the teachers & teachers who dispel darkness, shine a light on our path.
it’s helpful to remember that all they do is show us the way; it’s up to us to actually walk the walk, put their teachings into practice. i’m not saying that’s an easy task, but …
… it’s also helpful to remember that the path ultimately leads back to ourselves, back to the realization that the guru lives within, that we are the only ones who truly know, can have an experience of knowing on a soul level. i mean, we’re the ones who choose teachers, who decide which texts to read, what resonates, right? we know what we need, what our soul work is calling for, so who’s the guru after all?
“the guru said to the disciple:
you have three jobs.
your first was to find me.
your second is to love me.
your third is to leave me.”
—indian proverb
purvashadha & uttarashadha are partners in bringing lessons about victory. purva reminds us what it is within us that can’t be suppressed, that must be born (ashadha = “what cannot be subdued”). uttara aligns us with the vishvadevas—the ten gods of truth, goodness, willpower, skill, etc.—who support us in taking the action steps necessary for us to achieve ultimate victory. all obstacles are removed when we are in right alignment, when we align with the divine forces, with our divinity.
today is an auspicious day to notice where wisdom is being revealed, where light is illuminating something in your life, & to hew toward it, trust it, align with it, put those “ahas,” that wisdom, into practice, do something.
one way to do that is to remember your teachers & honor them in whatever way resonates with you.
