it’s monday, july 17, & we have a new moon in cancer, in the starspace called punarvasu. cancer vibrates with the frequency of the divine feminine, of unconditional love, & so does punarvasu, which is ruled by aditi, the mother of the gods (the adityas).
new moon is when the sun & moon come together & the moon is hidden by the sun, disappears into & is purified by his flames. in order for purification to happen, toxins/poisons get to come to the surface (oh yay!), just as they do when we do a cleanse. b/c this new moon happens on monday, the moon’s day, it is especially auspicious for healing, inviting us, like loving mothers to ourselves, to bring compassion & empathy to our limiting beliefs, to patterns of being that don’t really serve us, & in this way free us from them.
the new moon is called “amavasya,” which means “no moon day.” “whenever something or somebody becomes absent, through that absence, their presence always becomes more powerful,” writes sadhguru. the absence of the moon “makes her more present than ever before. … the earth broods on amavasya” & the integration of life is upleveled.
given that the sun has also only barely moved into cancer along with the moon (the new moon is at only 1 degree cancer), our soul(ar) battery is probs not feeling fully charged either, so the perfect time to double-down on our inner brooding, drawing inward & reflecting on what we get to heal in the coming fortnight of the moon.
punarvasu is the star of repetition & means the “return” (punar) of the “light” (vasu). aditi is the sister of diti. aditi means “unbounded/limitless”; diti, “limited/bound.” while aditi is the mother of the gods, diti is the mother of the demons, our inner demons, the negative parts we would reject, our self-judgment.
this new moon invites us to withdraw into our man or woman or gender-nonconforming caves & brood over the repetitious patterns & tendencies we are ready to kiss goodbye & heal from. healing isn’t a once & done, it’s our life’s journey.
cancer is associated with ajna chakra, our third eye, seat of our intuition. intuition is not the same thing as our feelings or emotions, which can actually cloud our intuition.
so our moon work for the waxing cycle is to connect to the unclouded sky of our limitlessness, our own divinity, & reintegrate our delimiting parts away into oblivion. you go!
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
