it’s wednesday, july 19, & moon is in cancer, in the starspace called ashlesha. cancer is heart-centered. it’s where we feeeeeeel into the needs of everyone & just want to love on them. as a result, it’s also where we can forget to love on ourselves, where we can give so much to others that we have nothing left for ourselves & then wonder why we feel resentful or worse. cancer is directly opposite capricorn, sign of boundaries. harmonizing the polarity between the two energies creates a container within which we can pour out our love without totally emptying ourselves. to create that container, we get to nurture ourselves first, make sure our own needs are met. for how can we give to others when our own gas tank is in the red zone?
ashlesha—ahhh, ashlesha! who doesn’t love a little serpent energy in the middle of the week?! “ashlesha” means “the entwiner” or “the embracer” & invites us to ponder how we are being that, what or whom we are wrapping ourselves hard around & whether we are thereby uplifting or downlifting ourselves, whether that thing or person is taking us higher or lower. cancer is very emotional, which can make it a challenge to uncling, but if we can meet that challenge, ohhh, how transformative it will be!
it’s the second lunar day, the second phase of the waxing moon, which is related to vishnu’s form as narayana, the sustainer of the universe, & supports acts of creation that, well, sustain our own universe. with the abundance of basil now, why not whip up a ton of pesto (like this vegan version—you’re welcome!) & freeze it for future sustenance? just a thought, but you get the idea, right?
wednesday is ruled by mercury, who loves free & open communication. just like thomas jefferson, who brilliantly held that certain liberties, including those of religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition, should be sacred to everyone.
“our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost.”—thomas jefferson
“sacred to everyone” means everyone should get to express their opinion, that no one should dictate what’s acceptable or be the arbiter of it, be censorious. we may disagree vehemently with or be offended by someone’s speech, but if we don’t let them speak it, why should we feel entitled to speak freely either? discuss amongst yourselves!
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
