it’s sunday, july 28, & moon is in the starspace called mrigashira, which equally straddles the signs of taurus & gemini. mrigashira means deer (mriga) head (shira). this deer walks/transits from taurus, where it feels earthily cozy & content, into gemini, where airy curiosity peaks its interest, inspires it to wonder, “is this all there is?” & to wander in search of something else.
as i mentioned the other day, pleasure from creature (ie, material, external) comforts satisfies for only so long. pleasure/happiness = conditioned contentment, transitory contentment, not contentment on a soul level, not contentment that endures. & so eventually but inevitably we suspect that there is something more; we step one foot, then another, out of our comfort zone, allow our curiosity to be peaked in the hope of having it satisfied, of finding what we are looking for.
both my friend emily (pictured doing the “bloy” in crested butte this past spring) & i enjoy almost nothing more than skiing (well, snowboarding in her case)—it seems to bring us incredible joy. but one day we couldn’t decide if it brought us bliss or joy or if there was a difference, so we came up with the term “bloy” to cover all bases. that said, it’s not really bloy in the absolute sense. our bloy is dependent on the quality of the snow, the air temperature & many other factors; our bloy can easily be stopped in its tracks with a bloy-depleting traffic jam on i-70 on the way home or by being stuck up in the air on a lift in hellacious winds at breckenridge (breck means “wind”).
mrigashira is ruled by soma, that elusive elixir of bliss, of joy in the experience of the now, in the experience of pure being. of course, the catch is that, as ramana maharshi said, “what you are looking for is what is looking.” which is to say that, yesssss, we are the bliss, we are the joy, we are the bloy—how much searching out there will it take for us to realize that? how much relinquishing bloy in a traffic jam do we have to succumb to?
it’s the twelfth lunar day, which is, like sunday, connected to the sun, bringing clarity of vision & allowing us to shine that vision out into the world, to be a beacon for others.
