it’s thursday, july 30, & moon is in the starspace called jyeshtha, which occupies the last sky-slice of scorpio. last day, i mean for this lunar cycle, of watching our fears play out across our inner movie screen. hopefully we’ve been doing our practices, which create the space for us to sit back & watch, to realize that we are not our fears & that our fears are not real.
jyeshtha challenges us to wield our light sabers to vanquish our darkness. jyeshtha means “eldest.” the eldest in the family is often the one who protects their younger siblings. indra is the deity who rules this asterism. as lord of the gods he is a protector as well. what does he protect us from? our lower nature, b/c indra also represents our senses, our indirayas. there’s nothing wrong with enjoying sensory pleasures—i mean, who would want to eat if they didn’t enjoy the tastes & textures of food? rhetorical question!—but being too attached to them, being at their mercy is … or is if we want to evolve spiritually. we can have our cake & eat it too as long as we realize that we don’t have to. are you up for the challenge?
it’s the eleventh phase of the waxing moon this morning, then the twelfth this afternoon. so get with your practices this morning, whether meditation, asana, pranayama, seva, or all of the above. then see what clarity arises this afternoon, how your vision of where you’re going & what you need to do to get there comes more into focus.
jupiter owns thursday. jupiter is our higher purpose, our sense of being here for something greater than ourselves. jupiter is the guru, the guru without & ultimately within, the one who connects us to our sense of highest purpose. thursday is always an especially good day to chant to the guru, to the principle that the guru is present in myriad opportunities throughout the day to wake us up to our purpose:
Guru Brahma Guru Vishnu
Guru Devo Maheshwara
Guru Sakshat Param Brahma
Tasmai Shri Gurave Namah
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a kind of lunar weather report. the moon is our consciousness & i hope that by unpacking the cosmic forces influencing it every day, you’ll be better able to understand & thus lean into its ever-changing vibrations & use them to your advantage.
