it’s tuesday, july 5, & moon is in virgo, in the starspace called uttaraphalguni. virgo vibrates with the frequency of worrying over the details of our life to keep us safe & healthy, to keep our lives running smoothly. virgo establishes routines & protocols, keeps logs, has apps for everything & actually uses them. moon in virgo for the next two & a half days supports us in cleaning up our act, whether that means actually cleaning/organizing our home (or office, ie, goddess cave, in my case) or establishing better eating or exercise habits or getting our finances in order. catch my drift?
uttaraphalguni is known as the star of marriage & commitments & is said to produce “matchmakers & expert councilors in the arts of love & marriage.” this asterism is ruled by aryaman, the god of formal hospitality, who, according to the rig veda, “brings enjoyment in the face of difficulties” & “makes relationships beautiful, smooth & enjoyable; easing disagreements & promoting accord, harmony & felicity.” according to the ramayana, sita & ram were married when the moon was in uttaraphalguni, & if that wasn’t an auspicious match, i don’t know what is.
soooooo, this asterism brings a lesson about making auspicious matches, about signing contracts that are mutually beneficial (which is what brings auspiciousness), or being the one who facilitates them. like, for example, by playing matchmaker or mediator, by running interference if necessary to smooth the way, ease real or perceived disagreements.
it’s the sixth lunar day, the sixth phase of the waxing moon, which is related to shiva & parvati’s younger son, ganesha’s bro, kartikeya, who was a precocious warrior famous for his victories over demons. demons, as i don’t need to tell you, represent our negative tendencies, our limiting beliefs. today is a good day to celebrate our victories over our demons, whether they’re ant-size or toad-size or elephant-size. b/c earth school can be tough & it’s helpful to remember, to remind ourselves, of the progress we are indeed constantly making.
tuesday is ruled by mars, who has a tendency to act first, think later. which doesn’t always work out so well! with the world hotting up every which way, it’s especially important now to be more cautious & intentional, to think before we act, pause, count to ten.
