it’s monday, june 13, & moon is in scorpio, moving from the starspace called anuradha into jyeshtha, where moon will be full overnight, about midmorning mountain time. emotionally turbulent scorpio vibrates with the frequency of our hidden fears & paranoias, of the hidden parts of ourselves, the parts of ourselves we’d prefer to keep hidden, rising to the surface. scorpio is shadow time! & guess what? we all have shadow! we all have parts of ourselves we don’t want anyone else to see or even look at ourselves—our anger, our selfishness, our inappropriate thoughts, our political incorrectness, our hypocrisy,  etc., etc., etc.

but, as carl jung said: “how can i be substantial if i do not cast a shadow? i must have a dark side also if i am to be whole.” only ghosts cast no shadow, right? are we ghosts or are we humans? do we want to live our fully human lives, 100% who we are, or do we want to shrink from our wholeness, live at 50% capacity? are we brave enough to own our shadow? b/c if not, our shadow will own us.

anuradha is ruled by mitra, the divine friend, & brings a lesson about being as devoted to the people in our lives as we would be to god, seeing them as divine. jyeshtha is ruled by indra, who famously slayed vritra, the dragon holding the earth’s waters captive. ok, get this, dragons = demons = our shadow/our trauma; water = our emotions. this asterism brings a lesson about slaying our own demons & thus allowing us to feel the feelings that we’ve kept hidden so we can heal, be whole.

we get to ask if we are spiritually bypassing, the term coined by American psychotherapist John Welwood to describe our “tendency to use spiritual ideas and practices to sidestep or avoid facing unresolved emotional issues, psychological wounds, & unfinished developmental tasks.”

scorpio invites us—i’m not saying it’s easy!—to transform our fears & paranoias & traumas into wisdom, into strength, by facing them, like dragon slayers.

it’s the fourteenth lunar day, so in advance of the full moon we get to ponder whether we are or are not spiritually bypassing. & b/c jyeshtha means “eldest,” we get to take responsibility for that, as an elder or the eldest child would, as indra, the king of the gods would.

what needs slaying in your life? that’s your moon work for the rest of the lunar month!

& that’s your daily bliss! which is a kind of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss. may it inspire you to enlighten up a little more each day.
