it’s thursday, june 13, & moon is in leo, in the starspace called purvaphalguni. leo is where we get to stand in our greatness, b/c doing so shows other people that it’s possible, b/c doing so gives others the permission to do so. the bhagavad gita is a text about how to shine, how to do our duty, show up 100 percent. it’s a dialogue between krishna, aka god, & arjuna, his disciple, who is having qualms about stepping into his greatness, doing his duty, fulfilling his dharma. krishna counsels arjuna to perform his duty with a view to guiding people & for the welfare of all, telling him that “whatever action is performed by a great man, common men follow in his footsteps, & whatever standards he sets by exemplary acts, all the world pursues.” would it be easier to shine your light if you knew it wasn’t just about you, if you knew it was about setting an example?

purvaphalguni is ruled by bhaga, the god of delight, who invites us to delight in our earthly, embodied existence, take a timeout from our duties & responsibilities. i have my ascendant here, & the first vedic astrologer who read my chart referred to this star as the cat in the hammock. i took offense, b/c i thought she meant i was lazy—woulda been nice if she’d unpacked some meaning for me! the point is that if we work hard, we get to play hard, rest hard … so we can work more harder again.

it’s the eighth lunar day (tithi), the eighth phase of the waxing moon, from 10 a.m. MDT. moon is half-dark, half-light now, reminding us that where there is darkness there is also light, & vice versa, that the one feeds & informs the other, that there is no creation without chaos/destruction. how can you incorporate/harmonize the opposing forces within you today?

speaking of darkness & light, thursday is infused with the energy of jupiter, whose sanskrit name is “guru,” the one who removes the gunk from our lives, the film that prevents us from seeing the light, who enlightens us up. guru is a principle. altho it can be a person, a holy teacher, it can be anyone or anything—a situation, a chance encounter, an experience in nature, our dog or cat—that helps us wise up, gives us perspective on who we truly are, allows us to see the light.

& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
