it’s wednesday, june 16, & moon is in leo, in the starspace called purvaphalguni. leo is, as you surely know, the king, the lion king, the king of the jungle, & reminds us that we are kings (or queens or whatever) of our own personal jungles, & that with rulership comes responsibility.
& my main music man, jeremy sole, who spins sunday nights on KCRW (you can listen to his show live or not online or via the app & catch his own beats on soundcloud), & whom i have been a HUGE fan of probably since he began his spinning sojourn at that station, reminds us this week that we thrive when we help others thrive. that’s what a good king/queen/whatever does—they understand that no one thrives unless everyone thrives; they don’t live for themselves, or themselves only, but for the greatest good of all who inhabit their king-/queen-/whatever-dom.
the lesson, or one lesson, of purvaphalguni is that if being the king/queen/whatever of our jungle isn’t fun, if we are not IN-joying it, we’re doing something wrong. as chuck palahniuk (of “fight club” fame) has said, “find joy in everything you choose to do. … it’s your responsibility to love it or change it.”
it’s the sixth lunar day, the sixth phase of the waxing moon, which invites us to celebrate our victories, big & small, to not take for granted all the positive steps we have taken & the juiciness that has been bestowed on us as a result. a positive step doesn’t have to be active; it can be “just” inhabiting a new way of being. like instead of being closed & fearful you are open & receptive & someone new comes into your life, or you have a sweet interaction with a stranger. it all counts!
wednesday is ruled by mercury, who is, yes, retrograde for another week. which means we have another week to dig into our stories & how they are or aren’t serving our highest intentions, especially as they concern our relationships with others. thank goddess mercury gives us the discriminating intelligence to do so! meanwhile, wednesday is always a good day to deal with communications & finances & technology & any combination of them: it’s a good day to call your financial advisor & talk about your cash flow, for example.
