it’s thursday, june 20, & moon is in scorpio, in the starspace called jyeshtha. scorpio is where our fears & paranoias lurk, & where, as a result, we get emotionally messy, just might fall apart. but/& it’s also where we have the courage to realize that our messiness, our less-pleasant emotions are part of what makes us human & that we are actually more lovable, not less, when we allow our shadow parts to be seen. not only that, but/& it’s where we eventually but inevitably realize that 99.9% of the time our worst fears never become reality, isn’t it?

jyeshtha means “eldest” & is ruled by indra, an elder in the pantheon of gods. while there was an indra-indra, indra was also a title conferred on someone who had earned it through past-life efforts, someone who had done a lot of tapas (worked through karma) & was thus worthy of taking on an authority role. “indra” can be translated as “celestial drop,” a reminder that even the lord of the gods was just one among many, just a speck of dust in the universe, not that important in the larger scheme of things. this asterism brings a lesson about not letting our authority over others go to our heads. in an essay in “eternity is happening now,” my teacher sharon gannon wrote: “kindness promotes humility & is a remedy for arrogance.” we get to take our responsibilities seriously, but ourselves not so much.

it’s the fourteenth lunar day (tithi), the fourteenth phase of the waxing moon, the penultimate one before the full moon tomorrow, which will be in sagittarius, in the starspace called mula—more on that tomorrow. meanwhile … spoiler alert: this tithi is intense. just as moon is nearly full to bursting, so we may be as well. what are you bursting with? what needs to be released to relieve that pressure? kali is the presiding deity, as she is for mula as well, supporting us in fiercely burning up what doesn’t serve—how about tossing a bit more ego into your own personal sacrificial fire?

thursday is ruled by jupiter, who gives us the wisdom to know what to take up & what to give up, what to hold on to & what to burn up.

bonus track: happy summer solstice! enjoy the longest day of the year! what are you going to do with all that light today?

& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
