it’s tuesday, june 30, & moon is in libra, in the starspace called swati. as i mentioned yesterday, under libra’s sway our intention is for our relationships to be mutually beneficial & swati, too, wants balance. swati is ruled by the deity vayu, the wind god. there is external wind & internal wind. our internal wind is called prana, our life force. prana rides on the breath, our inhales & exhales. we are each said to have only so many breaths in our lifetime, so the question for today is: how are we using those breaths? are our exhales longer than our inhales, or vice versa? are we taking more than we are giving? is our breath harmonious, does it provide a sense of balance?
it’s the eleventh phase of the waxing moon, which is associated with our spiritual practices, especially meditation. full disclosure: i do not drop into states of sublime bliss when i get on my cushion every morning—the monkey in my mind definitely swings from the branches trying to distract me. but the beauty of the practice, the benefit that accrues, stems from the entire ritual of it, which for me entails chanting & prayers & offerings before & after. it’s the whole megillah, if you will, not just the precious minutes i actually sit & try to quiet my mind. so if your meditation practice isn’t “working,” if you’re not feeling the benefits, if you don’t feel better/calmer/more grounded after you get off your cushion, might i suggest that you think about creating more of a sacred container for it. you can start with just lighting some candles or incense—or both!
tuesday is owned by mars, who is our courageous & action-oriented self. i always find that i can get a lot done on tuesdays, that i am very action-oriented, able to blaze through my to-dos without overanalysis, without trying to undermine myself. that’s b/c mars likes to act first, think later, which can be a good thing when your to-do list includes mundane things like going to the bank & grocery-shopping, but not so much if it entails having a convo with your boss about a raise—better to wait for wednesday, mercury’s day for that, or make sure to do your thinking before you get on the phone or zoom.
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a kind of lunar weather report. the moon is our consciousness & i hope that by unpacking the cosmic forces influencing it every day, you’ll be better able to understand & thus lean into its ever-changing vibrations & use them to your advantage.
