it’s wednesday, november 12, & moon is in leo, in the starspace called maghā. leo is ruled by the sun, who is the significator (karaka) for the ahamkara, or “ego principle,” as paramahansa yogananda put it. it is neither entirely ego nor entirely personality, but is the notion of our individual existence, which we (or i!) might call our sovereignty, which entails dominion over ourselves first & then over our portion of the world.
how’s your self-rule going?
maghā is ruled by the pitris, our ancestors, all those who came before us & took their evolution as far as they could, who cleared our path so we’d have an easier way onward, could go further, who have passed the torch to us.

it’s the eighth lunar day (tithi), the eighth phase of the waning moon, until midmorning, then the ninth. the eighth recalls the great battle between the forces of chaos & creation, when the supreme goddess appeared as tvarita to protect the universe by balancing those opposing forces. how does chaos serve/feed your creativity? the ninth tithi is ruled by the nagas, like yesterday’s asterism, aśleṣā, inviting us to look inward, into the depths of our psyche, & as such may feel emotionally challenging (more below!). if it’s calling you, do tap into your inner introvert today.
wednesday is ruled by free-thinking & -speaking mercury, who is retrograde now, so reviewing & rethinking, rewinding his thoughts before he opens his mouth or puts pen to paper. his mantra, especially now, is “is it true, is it kind, is it necessary, is it helpful?”
bonus track: mercury is backtracking over mars, who may amp up merc, inspire him to be less than kind with his words, to hew toward making a point at all costs, & b/c both planets are in watery scorpio, our emotions may get the better of us, so do take merc’s mantra to heart!
