what to know so you can align with today’s energy from a vedic (not western/tropical) astrology point of view: it’s tuesday, august 11, moon is in cancer, in the starspace called puṣya, it’s the fourteenth phase of the waning moon, mars’ day & we have a full solar eclipse on the horizon.
cancer …
… vibrates with the frequency of the divine feminine, the unconditional love of a mother. as the fourth sign/house of the natural zodiac (the one that begins with aries & ends with pisces), it is the seat of our heart, of our inner peace. which comes from feeling safe & loved. which comes from the nourishment we received from our mother (dad counts, but he didn’t actually literally nourish us with his body).
ram dass said, “the basic social institution is the heart.”
how heart-connected do you feel to the people around you, the world? how well do you know your own heart? how at peace & safe do you feel?
puṣya …
… is the star of nourishment & is ruled by brihaspati, guru to the gods, reminding us that wisdom is the greatest nourishment, teaching us that ultimately peace in our heart can come only from ourselves, not from others, that we are our own greatest sources of nourishment.
puṣya is where jupiter, the guru of the planets, is exalted & he is dwelling there now, giving us an opportunity to expand our emotional intelligence, sense of self-nourishment.
how’s that going?
the fourteenth lunar day, …
… the fourteenth phase (tithi) of the waning moon, is the penultimate tithi before, in this case, the new moon, when the last fragments of light are disappearing, being released, & we, too, are releasing the last fragments of what no longer serves us. this tithi calls in the fierce energy of kali—the last bits to go create the most resistance, the most friction within our tender hearts & minds.
this can make us irritated, nervous, even angry, will make us feel unsupported emotionally, so best to self-resource, do our inner work (i know—it’s endless!).
what might you be able to release today? how might you harness your inner kali?
mars …
… gives us the raw energy to get ‘er done, physically or spiritually. he’s the warrior who can paralyze/vanquish enemies on the battlefield-battlefield or on the battlefield of our mind, as in stopping negative thoughts, wresting control over them.
got mountains to move (or gallons of new soil to mix into the garden)? got limiting beliefs to subdue?
the full solar eclipse is coming …
… to the northern reaches of the northern hemisphere—iceland, greenland, russia—& will be partial in canada, parts of the usa, much of europe & northwestern africa. eclipses are potent times for spiritual practices, when, it is said, chanting mantra brings exponential results. for this & other reasons, it’s best not to be an eclipse rubbernecker, but to go within—within your home, within your heart. if you want to watch the action, you can do so, safely, here.
eclipse starts at 9:34 a.m. MDT, ends at 1:57 p.m. plan accordingly.
on this day it’s auspicious to chant a guru mantra, like “oṃ dakṣiṇāmūrtaye namaḥ,” which honors shiva—the one who faces south (dakṣiṇā)—as guru.

the daily bliss is 100% human generated! the act of creation is intrinsic to being human—when we give up our agency to create, we cease, little by little, to be fully human.
may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little (or a lot!) more bliss in your life.
