it’s tuesday, november 11, & moon is in cancer, in the starspace called aśleṣā. cancer is all heart all the time—physically, as it is connected to the muscle in our chest that pumps the blood that keeps us alive, & metaphysically, as it is connected to ajna chakra (linked to the pineal gland deep inside our head), which is the seat of our intuition, of our heart-knowing, of what we know to be true without, say, empirical evidence. the sanskrit word for heart, hṛdaya (ह़ृदय), actually means “heart-mind,” emphasizing the connection between, the union of, mental & emotional bodies, of thinking & feeling.
“if you look at a tree, really look at it, you do not get tired of looking at it. there is plenty of tree to take in, from the mountainous bark to the fingering leaves to the branches that themselves branch out into yet more branches, & more. & … there is the tree you can’t see—the vast root system below, branches branching out wider than the tree’s canopy, a kind of invisible symmetry. you know the root system is there, but you cannot see it.”—from “dutch tulips & a dodo bird,” by john green, in suleika jaouad‘s the book of alchemy
how can you work your intuition, trust it? what do you know without being able to see it, touch it, feel it, label it?
aśleṣā, ruled by the nagas, those creeping, clinging serpents of our depths, brings a lesson about what we are clinging to, attaching ourselves to, boa-constrictoring ourselves around. “attachment refers to the ancient understanding that craving for something or someone to exist in a particular way is a source of misery,” writes yung pueblo in how to love better. “attachment is a deep form of inflexibility. it is a craving that runs so deep in the mind that it creates tension,” disrupts our inner peace, our heart happiness.
what can you hold more loosely?
who or what—people, emotions, situations, thoughts—is it time to release, uncling to?
it’s the seventh lunar day (tithi), the seventh phase of the waning moon, until midmorning, then the eighth. the seventh supports us with steadiness of mind, the eighth with the ability to hold all aspects of ourselves, own all of them, our darkness & our light, with equanimity, a state of inner peace.
tuesday is ruled by mars, who is in his home sign of scorpio these days, giving us the courage to dive into our emotional/psychic depths, meet suppressed feelings & our shadow like the spiritual warriors we are.
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
