it’s wednesday, march 18, & we have a new moon, in pisces, in the starspace (pie slice of pisces sky) called uttarabhādra, this evening, combust saturn is also in uttara b & it’s the vedic new year. what’s it all about?
pisces is the vast ocean of consciousness, the primordial soup out of which we were born & into which we will dissolve. as the last sign of the natural zodiac pisces is the end of one cycle; it’s the dream state between death & rebirth, which we experience each night when we go to sleep—nothing to fear! pisces is the magic dark of potentiality where something—like a baby from the merging of cells invisible to the human eye—emerges out of the seemingly nothingness, where we are invited to feel into what’s true rather than try to name it, put a label on it & place it in a box.
“imagination is the beginning of creation. you imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine & at last you create what you will.”—george bernard shaw
uttarabhādra is ruled by ahir budhnya, the serpent of the depths who is related to ananta shesha, the thousand-headed serpent that supported vishnu while he slept his cosmic sleep, aka yoga nidra—a deep meditative slumber between cycles of creation, when the universe was present in its nonexistent form, was pure potential, not yet manifested.
ananta means “endless, infinite“; the serpent under the surface of the ocean represents our untapped potential, which is infinite, waiting, like kundalini shakti, to be activated, awakened.
water is an unstable environment, yet ananta shesha provided stability, a sturdy foundation. how might you find stability in the midst of uncertainty (combust saturn can bring doubt, insecurity, fear), in uncertain (!) times?
the shakti, or superpower, of this nakshatra is to bring the rain, which nourishes the earth, provides the water to grow plants. but for that to happen, the clouds have to surrender their water, they have to die!
this is progress, the process of transformation, how we move forward, & with pisces’ ruling planet, jupiter, now in forward motion, we can be hopeful about making progress, evolving.
the conjunction of saturn & sun is, i’m not going to beat around the bush, an intense one. saturn is friend to neither moon nor sun & is inimical to sun. sun was saturn’s dad & let’s just say sun wasn’t exactly a loving parent. sun is putting saturn through a test of fire, saturn is giving as good as he’s getting by starving sun. they are rubbing each other the wrong way, creating friction around responsibility (saturn) & power (sun).
as if two new years (gregorian & chinese) weren’t enough, this new moon marks the vedic new year, each of which has a unique name & meaning. this year is called parābhava & is a period in which external forces will bring transformation (whether we like it or not!), in which the ego gets to be shattered & illusions destroyed, but fear not, this is so wisdom & maturity can emerge, so that we can find truer alignment with our true self.
this echoes the lesson of saturn-sun conjunction in pisces, doubling-down on it—don’t ignore it!
may we collectively (which see all the death & destruction being fomented by outsize egos & illusory notions) & personally reflect on our past actions & correct (amend & remedy) our mistakes, so we can become more humble & grounded, strengthen our resilience & deepen our inner wisdom.
if you still haven’t got the message, this new moon is associated in the D20 chart of spiritual progress with goddess chinnamasta, who famously decapitated herself, another reminder of the futility of ego.
off with your head! i say that with love, with kindness—venus is, after all, exalted now in pisces, inviting us to forgive (ourselves & others), to find common ground, to surrender.
let go of story, of your favorite narrative, stop overthinking (uttar b is where mercury is debilitated & he is retrograde now, in aquarius) & allow yourself to float in the vast ocean of unnamable possibility.
who knows what might be percolating in your magic dark, what might be lurking in the depths of your subconsciousness! be still & be with it—you don’t have to do anything yet.
may the rain nourish you!
wishing you a deep & blessedly transformative new moon!
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
