it’s wednesday, april 15, moon is in pisces, in the starspace called uttarabhādra, it’s the thirteenth phase of the waning moon until 11 a.m. MDT, then the fourteenth, & it’s mercury’s day.
pisces vibrates with the frequency of what lies beyond the reality we can perceive with our senses, including our cognitive ones; it’s the realm of the inexplicable, the unnameable, where a nothing becomes a something—like magic!—where imagination reigns & we might dream an impossible dream that becomes possible.
“imagination is not frivolous—it’s generative. sometimes, the way through isn’t to force ourselves to believe we can do the impossible. it’s to adjust our sightline, notice what comes into view, & step—however tentatively—through that opening.”—suleika jouad
there is now quite a planetary party in pisces now, as mercury just joined mars & saturn, a lot of energy to tap into—all you have to do is walk through the door.
uttarabhādra is the counterpart to pūrvabhādra, the next auspicious step, the one that grounds, stabilizes, supports any “aha!”s from yesterday. it is ruled by ahir budhnya, the benefic serpent of the depths, our depths, our subconsciousness, our hidden potential. he brings the rain: rain = growth → forward motion → progress → transformation. guess what? rain clouds have to die to bring the rain!
this nakshatra connects us to our innermost depths, to our intuition & inspiration. one of its symbols is a two-headed person. two heads means two brains, a material one & a spiritual one. our lesson is to not let our inspiration carry us off into the ether but to ground it in reality.
what gets to die so you can move forward? how do you get to reconcile what you can imagine with what is possible?
the thirteenth lunar day (tithi), ruled by sarvamangala devi, removes all shortcomings & increases juiciness. the fourteenth tithi is the penultimate phase before the full or new moon (new moon alert for friday!) & is ruled by goddess jwalamalini, whose name means “garlanded in flames.” think self-immolation! think self-sacrifice, as in small “s” self, as in the ability to burn up the parts of us preventing us from realizing our highest purpose.
in order to extract the nectar, the amrita, from soma, it had to be squeezed out with intense pressure & then purified under the highest temperatures.
transformation isn’t for sissies: what are you willing to sacrifice so you can sip the sweetest nectar? how much heat can you endure?
wednesday invites us to use, not abuse, mercury‘s superpowers of communication & discriminating intelligence. so that’s one thing. the other is that rational, logical mercury is now hanging out in pisces, where his rational mind doesn’t work so well, but his imaginative mind does. so we’ll have to work extra hard to say what we mean & mean what we say & just might get some really cool ideas.
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
