it’s tuesday, march 21, & we have a new moon, which is born when sun (shiva, the divine masculine) & moon (shakti, the divine feminine) come exactly together, uniting their qualities (doing & being, acting & receiving), you might say bringing out the best in each other, as any sacred union would, exemplifying how one plus one can be greater than two, the whole greater than the sum of its parts—for shiva without shakti is inert possibility; he needs his divine counterpart to be all he can be.
as the saundarya lahari says, “shiva, when united with shakti, has the power to manifest. if not thus, that mighty god himself is not even able to stir.”
the new moon is in pisces, in the starspace called uttarabhadra, & is joined by mercury & jupiter & is hemmed by rahu & venus in aries & saturn in aquarius. what does all that portend? let’s explore!
• pisces is where we get to feel into, as rumi says, being the drop in the ocean & the ocean in the drop; where we are invited to surrender into the mystery of all that is. pisces is also where we can drop out rather than drop in.
• uttarabhadra is symbolized by the back legs of a funeral cot & so brings in the energy of dying & also transformation, for we die only to be reborn; the old moon dies so the new one can be born.
• mercury is debilitated, & thus confused, in pisces, but jupiter is bringing high-mindedness & truth into the equation, helping us figure out which of our stories are true, which not, which are leading us to greater truth, which not.
• the venus-rahu conjunction in fiery aries is an interesting one: it could uplevel or blow up relationships &/or inspire new artistic/cultural endeavors/perspectives.
• saturn in aquarius, sign of the water-bearer, wants to share (pour out!) his innovative ideas generously & responsibly with the world in order to sustain it. this placement invites selfless service like giving to charity & social activism.
putting that all together, we have our moon work for the coming cycle cut out for us: we get to ask ourselves what we are willing to surrender in order to come into greater truth—with ourselves, with others, with society, with our powers of creation. we get to ask ourselves what story (or stories!) we get to let go of so we can write a new story. what’s the first sentence you are ready to inscribe on the blank page of this new moon?
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss. ma
