it’s monday, march 27, & moon is in taurus, in the starspace called mrigashira. taurus vibrates with the frequency of contentment, which is called santosha in sanskrit & is one of the five niyamas, or guidelines for how to be in ourselves with ourselves. contentment is the ability to find joy in the infinite, in whatever arises, to be with what is without whining about it, without wishing it were other than what it is. under the sway of venus-ruled earthy taurus, we may, however, be inclined to confuse pleasure with contentment, or to think pleasure is the means to contentment, & to seek it in material comforts, to think more money or a bigger house or more ski days are going to do the trick. nothing wrong with pleasure. it’s just that pleasure is fleeting—that bowl of van leeuwen’s vegan cookies & cream caramel swirl ice cream isn’t going to last forever—& then we’re going to be looking for our next hit of pleasure. so pleasure can actually be a distraction from contentment.
mrigashira is the wandering deer, who has qualities like gentleness, timidity, fickleness & gentleness. in vedic lore, deers are magical. elusive, enchanting & divine creatures. think of the golden deer in the ramayana that enchanted sita while she & rama were exiled in the forest. that deer was a demon in disguise, pure illusion, & sita’s desire for it precipitated her kidnapping by ravana & the war launched by rama to win her back. this asterism reminds us that not all that glitters is gold & invites us to ask ourselves how we might be deluded or deluding ourselves, whether what we are seeking is real or a figment of our imagination.
it’s the seventh lunar day, the seventh phase of the waxing moon, which is related to indra, the lord of the gods, who famously fell from grace thanks to his big, fat ego. it’s a good day to work our humility muscle (which doesn’t mean we have to play small).
monday is ruled by the moon, the part of us that craves a sense of peace. peace is an inside job. “if you do not find peace inside your own heart, then you will not find it anywhere else on earth,” said sri chinmoy.
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
