it’s wednesday, march 29, & moon is in gemini, moving from the starspace called ardra into punarvasu around 8:30 a.m. mountain time. so we get another day in which to pursue new interests, feel mentally & perhaps creatively stimulated. mercury, which also rules wednesday, rules gemini, so it’s a double-good day to get with the air element, move ideas through & out of our heads, communicate with others, share our thoughts.
punarvasu means return (punar) of the light (vasu), which is just what we need after what can seem like the darkness & heaviness of ardra (see yesterday’s post for more). this asterism is ruled by aditi, the earth goddess, the divine mother, who brings abundance, who nourishes all. she brings revitalization, just as the monsoons do after the dry season. california may not need more rain, & ardra surely brought enough storms, but we can all feel supported by this maternal energy, feel comforted; we are reminded that we are she & she is we: how can you nourish yourself today? how can you nourish others? (perhaps with kind words, this being mercury’s day.) aditi is infinite—there is always plenty of nourishment for us, plenty for us to share.
the eighth lunar day (tithi) becomes the ninth about an hour after moon shifts gears, so we will be shifting mental gears too—except for those who burn the midnight oil & sleep way into the morning. this shift can feel like a whiplash, like we’re doing a 180. the eighth tithi is considered jaya, “victorious,” which is pretty self-explanatory, & is said to be the birth tithi of lord krishna, the creative energy that sustains the earth. the ninth meanwhile is considered rikta, “empty, devoid,” & is said to be the birth tithi of lord rama, who famously defeated his enemies (eventually but inevitably, & with the help of hanuman). so it’s a good day for defeating enemies, in our case the ones that come in the form of toxic thoughts & emotions. the first step toward conquering them is to recognize them for what they are, out them, at which point they will begin to shrink, melt away, like the wicked witch of the west doused with a bucket of water.
wednesday is infused with the energy of mercury, who gives us a curious mind & discriminating intelligence, who loves to question in order to arrive at answers. is the question the answer you’ve been asking?
