it’s tuesday, march 7, & moon is in leo, in the starspace called purvaphalguni, where it was officially, technically full just before sunrise this morning. leo is the sign of the (non-gender-specific) king, the one who rules his/her/their jungle, the leader of the pride. &, oh, “pride” is a good word to keep in mind, a good, or not-so-good quality, to ponder. b/c we’ve all heard the expression “pride goeth before the fall,” yes? pride comes from ego, & too much ego can be too much of a not-so-helpful thing. which is why aquarius, the sign of the collective, is opposite leo, reminding us that service is the highest expression of leadership, that it’s not all about us, about accruing power, but about using our power for the greater good, that our dharma is to shine our light without diminishing anyone else’s, to be a beacon of inspiration so others are empowered to shine theirs. then together we can light up the world!
“whatever action is performed by a great man, common men follow in his footsteps, & whatever standards he sets by exemplary acts, all the world pursues,” krishna counsels arjuna in the bhagavad gita. he also says, “strive constantly to serve the welfare of the world; by devotion to selfless work one attains the supreme goal in life. do your work with the welfare of others in mind.”
purvaphalguni brings the shakti of fertility, procreation, creative energy, love & fulfillment & a message about symbiotic alliances. purvaphalguni is also the month when sun & moon, shiva & shakti, were married, & we all know what happens when the masc & the fem get together in bed, right? (a bed happens to be a symbol of this asterism.)
holi, the hindu festival when people color-bomb one another, is celebrated today. on the eve of holi, bonfires are lit to burn away any negativity that has accrued in relationships over the year.
this lunar cycle began two weeks ago with the new moon in aquarius, where the sun is now lighting up the moon in leo. sooooo, our moon work for the waning cycle is to harmonize the polarity between sun & moon, between the masculine & the feminine, between our individual selves & the collective. it couldn’t be a better time to repair our relationships—with others & with the world. got that?
