it’s tuesday, march 8, & moon is in taurus, in the starspace called krittika. taurus vibrates with the frequency of santosha, which means “contentment.” santosha is one of the niyamas, the five yogic guidelines for how we should engage with the world. being content sounds simple, but the practice can be a challenge, b/c most of us seek contentment/satisfaction from external sources—like food & people & pleasurable experiences—while cultivating santosha entails being unattached to our desires & finding peace within, finding an inner satisfaction independent of anything happening in our lives, anything happening to us. that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy skiing or a vegan hot fudge sunday or juicy sex, just that we get to learn that it isn’t ultimately the cause of the peacefulness, the eternal joy, we seek.
krittika is ruled by both kartikeya (see below) & agni & brings a lesson about being able to fiercely pierce or cut or burn through ways of being or feeling or thinking that don’t serve our highest expression of self. what (or who!) in your life needs to go? what can you offer into the fire today?
it’s the sixth lunar day, the sixth phase of the waxing moon, which is a great good day to celebrate our victories b/c it is related to shiva’s son kartikeya, the precocious young general, whose name, yes, means “of the krittikas.” legend has it that after he was born on the banks of the ganges, six of the seven krittikas, aka the pleiades, aka the seven wives of the seven great sages looking after the affairs of our galaxy, saw him & each wanted to nurse him. kartikeya solved the dispute by growing five more heads, so he’d have six & could look at all six foster mothers while each nursed one aspect of him.
tuesday is ruled by mars, who gives us courage—the courage to pay attention, to show up in our integrity & be fully present, to be with what is, & act accordingly. if we can be fully present in our integrity, we will know how to act in self-alignment, know when to say yes, when to say no. honoring who we be, not who others expect us to be, takes courage.
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a kind of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss. may it inspire you to enlighten up a little more each day.
