it’s thursday, may 12, & moon is in virgo, in the starspace called hasta. virgo is a tamasic earth sign. tamasic signs are fear-based—under their sway we are inclined to prevent anything bad from happening, we see where we might get tripped up, where harm might lurk, & act proactively. earth signs are about our values, work, money, resources, structures, family. virgo is ruled by mercury, who is detail oriented & wants our lives to be organized. & virgo is the sixth sign of the natural zodiac, which is associated with hard work & illness/healing. with mercury in retrograde now, we may be reflecting more on the details of our life, or on the details of our inner life, than on actually doing anything about it, the way i am staring at my desk awash in books & papers & just thinking about putting it all in order. maybe when mercury goes direct in a few weeks!
hasta means “hand,” which is a literal & metaphorical symbol for manifestation. this asterism brings a lesson about what & how we bring what we bring into creation & how we offer it to the world, whether with an open hand or a closed fist. we can offer with an open hand when we know we are but vessels for the divine to work through us, when we are humble enough that our ego doesn’t clutch at & try to own our creation.
it’s the eleventh lunar day, the eleventh phase of the waxing moon, which is associated with spiritual practices, especially fasting, but it’s also a good day to reclaim or recharge any spiritual practice, like meditation. if you forgot how, here’s some guidance from krishna, in tha bhagavad gita:
“there, having directed his mind to a single object, / with his thought & the activity of the senses controlled, / seating himself on the seat, he should practice / yoga for the purpose of self-purification.”—VI.12
thursday is ruled by jupiter, who gives us faith, faith in the ineffable, who connects us to the light of divine wisdom, which is seated in our heart.
“faith is seeing light with your heart when all your eyes see is darkness.”—barbara johnson
what does your heart know that your eyes can’t see?
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a kind of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss. may it inspire you to enlighten up a little more each day.
