it’s sunday, may 12, & moon is in the starspace of leo known as magha. leo is the king, the onedaily bliss who rules, but a king (or queen) is generally not made in a day—the torch, the scepter, is passed down through the generations & carries the wisdom of all those who came before, who sat on the throne.

“magha” means mighty or great. just as the greatness of a king (or queen) is dependent on the knowledge of his forebears being passed on to him, so our individual greatness, our potential for eminence, our ability to be valued & appreciated for whatever we contribute to the world, depends on our past life karma & on our ancestors as well.

in fact, the asterism of magha is ruled by the pitris, the ancestors of all humanity. they’re the ones who, like the counselors to a king (or queen!), which include the elders, guide us toward right action, toward alignment with our highest expression of self. but the ancestors need to be kept happy if we are going to feel their support, if they are going to pass on their wisdom.

how are you remembering & honoring your ancestors? the best way to do that is to be all that you can be, to fulfill the hopes & dreams they may not have been able to because they were too busy just surviving, because they didn’t have the resources of time & self-inquiry, of facing their shadow & healing wounds, of meditation.

it’s mother’s day so a great good day to reflect on the women in your lineage, to be grateful for the lessons passed on to you through mother & grandmothers, to honor their dna, which enlivens you. i was thinking yesterday how when i lived with my maternal grandmother during my punk ballet phase, she never judged me, never asked me why i was wearing torn clothes & heavy makeup. all she saw was me being me, all she saw was a granddaughter she loved. & i realized that she just wanted me to be free, to be free to be me … because she hadn’t been free to be herself.

& that’s your daily bliss—remember: they all did the best they could do & now it’s our turn to do the best we can!
