it’s thursday, may 14, & moon is in the starspace called dhanishtha, which straddles capricorn & aquarius, but moon will have moved into the aquarius half by the time you read this. both capricorn & aquarius are ruled by saturn, but capricorn’s energy is feminine, aquarius’s masculine. which means that in capricorn the moon, our mind, is more reflective, more internally focused, keeps things closer to home; whereas in aquarius we expand our horizons, are concerned with not just our immediate family’s well-being but the entire family of humanity—or maybe just our community, but our desire to make an impact, take responsibility, ripples out.
dhanishtha means “totally wealthy,” as in wealthy in body, mind & spirit. this asterism is ruled by the eight vasus, who are the maha manifesters on the material plane. which is why it is said that if we want wealth (true wealth, not just bling, the kind that lasts, that doesn’t need polishing), these are the deities to pray to. it’s also perhaps why this nakashtra follows shravana: we can manifest something today out of the message, the insight, we gleaned yesterday.
it’s the eight tithi (lunar phase), which is connected to the eight vasus (a double vasus whammy today)—the three gunas & five elements that are the building blocks of life. have you ever thought about, for example, the ratio of tamas to rajas in your life? have you ever thought about whether you favor fire as a tool to create over earth & whether that’s really working for you? just asking!
thursday is jupiter’s day & jupiter is going retrograde today. yes, i said yesterday that saturn was now retrograde (&, actually, tomorrow i’m going to tell you that venus, too, has gone retrograde) & i meant it. this is a strange week, with lots of planets reversing course, potentially creating a little (or a lot of, depending on where these planets are in individual charts) mayhem in our lives as we feel inclined to rethink so many different aspects of our lives so that we can eventually move forward intentionally. anyhoo, on a personal level jupiter’s retrograde is asking us to reflect on our relationships with our teachers, with our belief systems, with where we find inspiration, with our dharma, maybe our relationships with or feelings about children—which may ultimately bring greater appreciation for, say, our teachers or the opposite, may help us rethink a decision & make a better plan. we’ve got until mid-september to figure this out. start your engines now.
