it’s thursday, may 18, & moon is in aries, in the starspace called bharani. aries is a fiery, masculine sign ruled by mars, who creates an environment of courage & passion & the desire to get ‘er done, put it out in the world. that’s the upside of aries. the downside is that we can be so fired up & motivated to act under the sway of aries that we don’t look where we’re going, think only about ourselves not about the repercussions of our actions, who or what we might trample on in the process. i mean, aries is, after all, symbolized by a ram, who puts his head down & uses his powerful horns to butt out of his way whatever is in it.
bharani, speaking of the consequences of our actions, is ruled by yama, who is, yes, the god of death but perhaps more importantly the god of karma. he reminds us that our actions have results. he brings discipline & sacrifice. this asterism offers a lesson about owning our actions, which can mean sacrificing our ego, our pride, admitting that we made a mistake & making amends if necessary. we all make a false step from time to time—it’s only as big a deal as we make it, & we can make it a smaller deal by dealing with it.
it’s the fourteenth lunar day, the fourteenth phase of the waning moon, which means we have a new moon tomorrow. which means 24 more hours to release, shed, let go. this tithi (lunar phase) is ruled by kali, who is fierce. it’s deadline time! how can you channel kali’s fierceness to finish the moon work (to the best of your ability) you started on the last new moon? do you remember what your intention was?
thursday is ruled by jupiter, who gives us high-mindedness, a sense of moral purpose. “every time we make an immoral choice, we become more addicted to immorality,” says radhanath swami. well, yes, all of our thoughts-words-actions reinforce themselves, plant seeds for more of the same, deepen our samskaric grooves—the mental, emotional & psychological imprints that perpetuate our karma. we need jupiter’s wisdom for self-awareness so we can shift our karma. we can’t do anything about the karma we’ve already accrued, but we can most definitely do something about our future karma in the present. now. it’s clearly a great, good day to uplevel our karma!
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
