it’s monday, may 25, & moon is in the starspace called ardra, which occupies a sky-slice of gemini. the symbol of gemini is a couple, which means two people, which means duality. one definition of yoga is the ability to hold two opposing ideas in mind at the same time—masculine & feminine, hot & cold, up & down, yes & no. gemini embraces duality & is intellectually curious enough to even see past it, the way patti smith & robert maplethorpe transcended notions of gender in their mutual androgyny & saw & loved each other as artists first rather than as man & woman, whatever man & woman mean.
ardra brings storm energy, internal or external. storms are clearing, purging; they wash away what’s not needed & set us & the earth up for renewal. which isn’t to say that hurricanes & monsoons & pandemics (very ardra) are necessarily welcome, but if we can use natural (& personal) disasters to look more closely at our lives & what/who we value, we can emerge with greater clarity about how to be here & be our fully human selves. & that surely entails grief as we let go of what was, of what we were attached to, as we loosen our grasp on notions that no longer serve so we can make room for those that now will. if you feel it today, let the dam break & your tears flow/rush/gush. let them roll down your cheeks & soak your pillow; enjoy their saltiness on your tongue.
it’s the third lunar phase until midday (see yesterday’s post for more), then the fourth, which is related to lord ganesh: maybe you think too far out of the box this morning & you hit a wall this afternoon. that’s ganesh throwing down with obstacles. but try to remember that ganesh puts obstacles there to challenge us & that he never makes the hurdle higher than we can jump.
monday is the moon’s day, which brings a vibe of heart connection, listening to our heart, being sensitive to other hearts. patti smith, robert maplethorpe & i were all born on a monday, but our sensitive hearts are about all we have in common, except for spending time in gritty, pre-yuppie nyc.
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a kind of lunar weather report. the moon is our consciousness & i hope that by unpacking the cosmic forces influencing it every day, you’ll be better able to understand & thus lean into its ever-changing vibrations & use them to your advantage.
