it’s sunday, may 3, & moon is in the starspace called uttaraphalguni, which straddles leo & virgo. moon will be in the leo portion of this asterism until mid-afternoon, then moves into the virgo portion. which means our fiery sattvic leo state of mind will gradually come under the sway of earthy tamasic virgo. leo is all about our personal power & how we use it to create our kingdom, ideally by taking into consideration the happiness & equality of all. once we’ve created our kingdom, virgo comes in to protect it, to remind us that if we don’t maintain it, it will crumble. virgo can be a bit of a worrywart, but in a good way—who would pay bills or repair the roof without virgo breathing gently down our necks?
uttaraphalguni is related to the later months of spring, when all of our gardening/farming efforts begin to bear fruit (or veg), & thus suggests that our material desires can & will be fulfilled. this nakshatra is ruled by the deity aryaman, who rules over marriage, & contracts in general, & social rituals. as such, he wants us to do things in accordance with the rules & etiquette of society. he also represents the eye, which suggests the insight we have into what’s beyond our material existence. our challenge is to live in this world in right alignment with the ultimate principles of dharma—to be spiritual beings having a material/worldly experience. to be in the world but of all that is. & the energy of this asterism gives us the courage to do so.
it’s the eleventh phase of the waxing moon, which is related to spiritual practices, to not just talking about them but doing them. it’s time to walk the talk. if you haven’t been doing your practices, today is a good day to re-up, but always make sure to set goals that are achievable—don’t set the bar so high that you can’t reach it, but don’t set the bar so low that you’re really not stretching yourself either: stretching = growing, evolving.
sunday is the sun’s day. the sun is our true nature, our soul essence, our true self. so sunday is a great good day to do some self-care, or, um, soul-care. i’m not talking getting a pedicure or a hair cut (coming soon, evidently!), which is really just maintenance; i’m talking something truly soul nourishing, something that nurtures you on a cellular level & lights you up inside like a supernova.
