it’s thursday, may 6, & moon is in aquarius, in the starspace called purvabhadra. aquarius creates an environment in which we want to be of service, whether that means feeding the homeless or running for public office or volunteering at the library. the key here is to distinguish between service & servitude, to contribute to the world with humility but also joy. as mother teresa said to a do-gooder wannabe, if you’re not having fun go home, or something to that effect.
purvabhadra brings the lightning strike of “aha” about the truth of our existence. it breaks us out of what ram dass has described as our “self-contained universe,” our egocentric world of my career, my history, & allows us to see ourself as “a pilgrim on a spiritual journey” who is “no longer an isolated ego narrating [our] own story line.” we get a glimpse of the fact that we are souls evolving toward oneness, that each of us is “a pinprick of awareness in the star field of the cosmos,” & that we are part of it all.
it’s the eleventh phase of the waning moon, which is connected to our spiritual practices & reminds us to stay connected, to reconnect to them if they’ve lapsed. perhaps the most essential practice is meditation, single-minded focus on the present, which can be done throughout the day, not just on your cushion first thing in the morning. you can, for example, bring your awareness to the moments throughout the day that you dwell on the past or fantasize about the future, on what was or what might be, & gently yank your attention back to the now when it goes astray. don’t worry, you don’t have to keep score!
thursday is infused with the essence of jupiter, who is the part of us that craves deeper meaning & searches for it in teachers & belief systems. thursday is always a good day to remember who or what gives us hope, creates a container in which we can be our highest selves.
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a kind of lunar weather report. it is my hope that the daily bliss can help you align with the day’s cosmic energy & find a little more bliss; that it inspires you to enlighten up a little more each day.
