it’s thursday, may 7, & moon is in the starspace called vishakha. most of vishakha is in libra, & that’s the energy infusing the full moon, but the last few degrees are in scorpio, where moon will be later this afternoon. our relationships are highlighted in libra. humans are largely social beings; we want to be in relationship, & it’s actually through relationships that we really know who we are. they can also make us vulnerable, which is what happens in the transition from libra to scorpio. when we love someone, become attached to them, it’s easy to fear losing them. scorpio is where we get confused emotionally, maybe even a little paranoid, where it can be hard to know what’s real & what’s just a projection.
vishakha is ruled by two deities, indra & agni. indra is the king, agni the priest. the message here is that life requires harmony between opposing forces, in this case between our material & spiritual essences. libra, being the sign of harmony, underscores this. just as the king can’t rule without the support of the priest (who sanctifies all his projects) & the priest can’t conduct his rites without the financial support of the king, we can’t do it all ourselves either. the king & the priest also suggest high ambition—they’re the top of their food chains—but when we pursue ambition unchecked, our relationships can suffer.
the full moon today in vishakha/libra, is opposite the new moon in ashwini/aries, & is the halfway point in this lunar cycle, inviting us to tip the scales in the other direction to find balance. aries is very me-oriented, very much about our personal power & identity. libra is about others. with most of us sheltering in place, spending way more quality time with partners & children, or even more time isolated from others, stuff has probably come up, & we may be shocked by what has. we can ignore this darkness or dive into it & ask ourselves what it means & use it to deepen our relationships. one way keeps us mired in the gunk, the other sets us free & invites more love & acceptance.
it’s thursday, which is jupiter’s day. jupiter is what gives our life meaning, gives us a sense of purpose by connecting to something bigger than ourself. some of us get it from religion or spirituality, some of us get it from art, some of us get it from being amazing parents. however we find it, today is a good day to deepen our sense of purpose, ground ourself in it.
