what to know so you can align with today’s energy from a vedic (not western/tropical) astrology point of view: it’s wednesday, august 19, moon is in libra, in the starspace called viśakhā, it’s the eighth phase of the waxing moon & mercury’s day.
libra …
… is represented by scales, not the scales of justice, as in western/tropical astrology, but the kind merchants once used to weigh goods & their payment in coin to make sure the exchange was fair to both parties, equitable. for libra is an air sign, which means it is transactional. it is where the agreements we make with others, the contracts we sign with them, are made with the best interests of both (all) parties in mind.
that doesn’t mean that the pans of the scale are always in a state of equilibrium, but that harmony in general is the goal, that there is a balance of needs being met, desires being fulfilled, of being seen & appreciated.
although moon is in the seventh house of the natural zodiac, we are NOT in the age of aquarius. but that doesn’t mean that harmony & understanding, sympathy & trust can’t abound.
viśakhā …
… is the only nakshatra with two ruling deities—indra, the king, & agni, the priest, our soul power & our will power, the two forces that, when united, give us the ability to penetrate through, overcome, all obstacles to achieve our goal.
the symbol of viśakhā is an arch decorated as in a marriage ceremony & represents not only the triumphal achievement of that goal but also the beginning of something else, the gateway one passes through between one stage of life & the next, between what was & what will be.
one challenge faced & achieved, like finding the right partner to marry, is just the beginning of another challenge, being in intimate, committed partnership.
the eighth lunar day (tithi), …
… the eighth phase of the waxing moon, is the halfway point in moon’s journey, when moon is half light & half dark. it supports us in supporting, in embracing, both our light & our shadow, the parts of us we love & love others to see & celebrate, the parts of us we don’t love & want to keep hidden—as if we are uniquely “bad,” as if we uniquely have icky bits.
