it’s tuesday, november 15, & moon is in cancer, in the starspace called ashlesha. cancer is a feminine, sattvic sign ruled by the moon, the queen luminary, mother of the universe. gentle moon gives us our capacity to receive & feel, to be heart-connected & heart-trusting. ultimately, moon is our ability to be at peace, yet the rub is that that peace can be disturbed when we allow ourselves to feel too much, become sponges for other people’s emotions. vulnerability is the key to connection; vulnerability takes courage. maintaining boundaries also takes courage, & moon isn’t very good at that. cancer reminds us that, like the crab’s stony carapace protecting its soft, vulnerable underbelly, it’s loving for us & everyone else to maintain a gorgeous container for our heart so everyone feels safe to feel, to know what’s ours & what’s everyone else’s. then we can show up powerfully present & love as hard as the mother of all that is.
ashlesha brings a lesson about emotional entanglement, about letting ourselves get tied up in toxic knots of our own devising—&, let’s face it, they’re always of our own devising, right?—whether those knots are limiting beliefs or people who are not aligned with our highest purpose. the serpent energy of ashlesha gives us the wisdom to see those knots for what they are & set ourselves free. what are you clinging to, afraid to give up, let go?
it’s the seventh lunar day, the seventh phase of the waning moon, which is related to lord indra, the once great god who fell from grace b/c of his big effing ego. it’s a good day to remember that “we come nearest to the great when we are great in humility,” as the bengali poet-philosopher rabindranath tagore said.
tuesday is ruled by mars, who gives us the courage to take personal responsibility for our actions, rather than blame others when things turn out other than we expect or desire. “a great man is hard on himself; a small man is hard on others,” said lao tzu. Or to paraphrase kacy duke, the kickass trainer in the netflix scandal-drama “inventing anna,” be the author/hero of your own damn story; don’t let someone else tell you what role you’re going to play in your own life.
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss. may it inspire you to enlighten up a little more each day.
