it’s wednesday, november 15, & moon is in scorpio, in the starspace called jyeshtha. in the environment of scorpio’s turbulent emotional waters, we can cling to our suffering (self-created, people!) like a life raft, b/c it’s familiar, b/c we don’t know what will happen when we let go. it’s neither helpful to cling to it nor ignore it. b/c there is an inverse ratio between our pain, our sorrow, & our joy, our happiness. sounds perverse, but the more we feel at one end of the spectrum, the more we can feel at the other—our pain actually increases our ability to love! as thich nhat hanh counseled, “touch your suffering. face it directly, & your joy will become deeper.” yes, do try this at home!
jyeshtha means “eldest” & is ruled by indra. although there was an indra indra, indra was a title, like king, given to one in authority, to the king of the moment in the pantheon of gods. the word “indra” can be translated as “a celestial drop,” as in a drop in the ocean, one of many, so, um, don’t let it go to your head. the connection to water is perhaps why indra was the one who brought the rain & why an umbrella is a symbol of this asterism. indra both brings the rain & protects us from it, like an elder does his/her/their charges, like a parent sheltering a child with an umbrella. wielding cunning rather than brute force, indra indra famously slayed the dragon holding the earth’s water hostage. putting all that together: this asterism gives us the smarts & courage to win our karmic battles as long as our intention is not ego gratification but the greater good of all beings everywhere.
it’s the third lunar day (tithi), the third phase of the waxing moon, which brings a quality of nourishment. this tithi is considered to be the best one for taking care of our home & family.
wednesday is ruled by mercury, who is inquisitive, is forever questioning, seeking info & answers, believes in unconditional sharing of info so he can feel free to ask his questions & get them answered. “i would rather have questions that can’t be answered than answers that can’t be questioned,” said nobel prize winner richard feynman. how would you feel if you couldn’t openly pose questions, if you were canceled or censored for doing so?
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
