it’s thursday, november 17, & moon is in leo, moving from the starspace called magha into purvaphalguni just before 9 am mountain time. in the environment of leo, we want to hold court, be center stage with every spotlight & all eyes upon us. we want to be the sun, the planetary ruler of this zodiac sign. sun gives us vision & also shines so others can see where they’re going. for sun is the king, the one who has ultimate power, & with ultimate power comes ultimate responsibility for others. in our solar system there is only one sun, but we each get to be the sun in our individual solar systems, be beacons for others, show others how to shine by letting ourselves shine. this is the magnanimity of the sun—stepping up so others can see how to do it, so others feel empowered to do the same. how many people can you reach with your light today? be the sun!
magha (see yesterday’s post for more) is like the king upright on the throne with crown on head & scepter in hand, purvaphalguni is like the king lying supine on a divan, divested of royal regalia. while magha brings a lesson about the debt we owe our forebears & honoring them by living our highest purpose, purvaphalguni brings a lesson about resting, momentarily, on the laurels of making our best efforts. the mantra of purva p could be “all work & no play makes jack (or jill) a dull boy (or girl or binary).” if you’ve been working hard, today is a good day to play hard or just rest hard.
it’s the ninth lunar day, the ninth phase of the waning moon, which is related to serpent energy. serpents contain venom but are also considered harbingers of wisdom as their venom can be transformed into insights, can become a magical elixir. if you get bit by the serpent today, see if you can’t use it as an opportunity to work some magic on yourself.
thursday is ruled by jupiter, who gives us the ability to trust, have faith, believe. but that doesn’t mean having blind faith. we must always be willing to consider evidence that challenges, even contradicts, our beliefs. we must trust but verify.
