it’s friday, november 25, & moon is in sagittarius, in the starspace called mula. sagittarius vibrates with the frequency of hopefulness, which is just what we need after the sturm und drang of scorpio. & with sag’s ruler, jupiter—planet of expansion & optimism & seeing the big or bigger picture—having just started moving forward after several months doing the opposite, that sense of “yes, everything is going to be ok!” should be tangible. if frida khalo, with all of her physical & romantic trials & tribulations, felt hopeful enough to paint every day, to connect to something bigger than herself & create a life of beauty despite her own sturm und drang, who are we not to be able to see the light shining at the end of the tunnel? can you pull back from your microscopic, limited perspective & expand your world view? can you feel your bigness?
mula means “root” & is ruled by niritti, a very kaliesque deity, & i might add, a very frida-khalo-esque spirit. niritti takes no prisoners, would never let a full body cast prevent her from doing her thing. this asterism brings a lesson about getting to the root of what’s limiting us, what’s preventing us from blossoming & thriving, being all we are meant to be, & yanking it out.
it’s the second lunar day, the second phase of the waxing moon, which brings blessings for starting new whatever, especially laying the foundation—as in laying the foundation for a house or partnership or business—for anything that you want to endure.
friday is ruled by venus, planet of love. on a recent “we can do hard things” podcast, glennon doyle & company riffed on the concept of love languages—words of affirmation, quality time, receiving gifts, acts of service, physical touch—famously contrived by gary chapman. turns out that his paradigm was all about keeping people married rather than individually happy, as he had a fundamentalist attitude toward the institution of marriage. also turns out that we have many love languages, many ways to connect & feel loved. “you deserve a lover who takes away the lies & brings you hope, coffee, & poetry,” said frida khalo. coffee & poetry were love languages for frida. what makes you connect with your beloved, feel beloved, says “you are so loved!”—feel free to think outside the boxy box of the love language paradigm!
