it’s tuesday, november 26, & we have a new moon in the starspace called anuradha, which occupies a sky-slice of scorpio. the new moon marks the beginning of the next lunar cycle, which will be one flavored by scorpio’s energy. scorpio is a water sign, which is related to emotions, & the eighth sign of the natural zodiac, which is related to transformation. our emotions make us vulnerable, which is why so many people are afraid to feel—but if we can summon the courage to feel what we feel, we can use the power of our feeling nature to grow, to evolve. scorpio asks us to step into our emotional integrity, & thus our power, to transform worldly emotional attachments into spiritual devotion, to up our game.
anuradha is a nakshatra of pure devotion & is ruled by the deity mitra, god as the divine friend—can you imagine a more loyal friend than god? anuradha sparks the realization of our own divinity & is represented in the sky as a row of three stars, which are like three offerings. anuradha asks us to offer up ourselves to something greater than ourselves, to serve others through our connection to the divine, as, say mother teresa did. which is not to say that we all need to serve the poor or wash the faces of lepers, but anuradha gives us the spiritual support to go high rather than low. what are you devoted to & how does that feel? if it doesn’t feel joyful maybe it’s time for a reset.
as i mentioned, the new moon starts the next lunar phase, & b/c it’s in anuradha it sets that tone, that focus, for the next month. it’s time to deal with our emotional life, to uplevel it, transform toxic obsessions (if we have them!) into spiritual strength. as manorama, my first sanskrit teacher, always says, when we lose the “d” in “drama,” we get “rama,” god. & as my teacher sharon gannon likes to say, god = goodness overcomes darkness. mitra shines the light in our darkness.
tuesday is ruled by mars, who also rules scorpio, so we are double-dipping into our capacity to be courageous, in this case emotionally so. mars is a spiritual warrior—so was mother teresa, so are we all.
