it’s friday, october 14, & moon is in taurus, in the starspace called rohini until about 9 am mountain time, then in mrigashira. the environment of taurus is our comfort zone, where we feel into it & want to preserve it, cause, yeah, who wants to be uncomfortable? the reality, however, is that the only way to be truly comfortable, relatively or absolutely, is to accept what is, &, given that taurus is a very material sign where our identity is reflected in the material, to accept that what we have is enough & so are we, that more isn’t going to make us enough. but meanwhile, we want more of what we like & less of what we don’t like; i.e., more of what (we think) brings us more comfort, less of what (we think) brings discomfort. the yoga sutras call this raga (attachment) & dvesha (aversion), & we seesaw back & forth between wanting & not-wanting in order to find a state of equilibrium, which is ultimately achieved only by realizing that we are all, that we are complete in & of ourselves.
mrigashira (see yesterday’s post for rohini) is ruled by soma, the nectar of immortality quaffed by the gods. this asterism brings a lesson about our eternal search for that magical elixir—do ya think it might be love?!—that will make us feel like gods/goddesses. just as a deer (mriga = deer) anxiously seeks out one more tasty morsel, thinking the next one will be the one to fully satiate, so we think one more piece of chocolate or a bigger house or a new romantic partner will do it for us. not to be too redundant, but, to paraphrase ramana maharshi, we are already what we are seeking.
it’s the fifth lunar day, the fifth phase of the waning moon, which is called purna & means “full.” this tithi (lunar phase) is favorable for finishing whatever you need to finish & for healing whatever needs to be healed. it is also considered an auspicious day for initiating new ventures, including a marriage, so good on you if you are getting married today, especially b/c friday is venus’ day!
friday is owned by venus, planet of love & relationships.
