it’s tuesday, october 20, & moon is in scorpio, in the starspace called jyeshtha, until early afternoon, then moves into sagittarius. if we’ve done our scorpio homework, addressed our imagined fears & their roots, we will be unencumbered by them & be able to see the bigger picture & lean into sagittarian hopefulness. but do mind the gap this afternoon: the juncture between scorpio & sag is unprotected by a starry bridge—the moon has to, basically, leap across, hold its breath. don’t lose hope before you’ve gained it.
the nakshatra jyeshtha brings a sharp energy & is ruled by indra, aka the wielder of lightning. lightning sharply pierces the atmosphere & destroys in a flash, but also sharply illuminates in a flash—if we are paying attention, we can see what is about to be destroyed before it happens. we can’t save a tree from being singed by lightning from the heavens, but we can channel our own inner indra, use his/our weapon of lightning to illuminate & destroy what doesn’t serve us. if you’re not sure what serves & what doesn’t, where a little bolt of lightning might be rather effective, read what master shantideva has to say, below.
it’s the fifth phase of the waxing moon, which is connected to the moon in the form of soma, the elixir of immortality. what would make you feel immortal, feel so full of everything you need so you can express your magnificent effulgence?
mars owns tuesday. mars is our fighting spirit. ideally, we want to fight from love not anger, from the desire to right wrongs, to improve ourselves & the world, to rid ourselves of the negative tendencies that prevent us from loving ourselves & others, from walking the path of love. but, in “the bodhisattva’s way of life,” master shantideva says there is a purpose for anger. he advises us to get angry about our suffering, which comes from our mental afflictions, to make war on them, for they are our true enemies, to “never turn back/even for a single moment from the task/of destroying the mental afflictions.” a thousand-plus years on & we still haven’t embodied this wisdom? we can do it!
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a kind of lunar weather report. it is my hope that the daily bliss can help you align with the day’s cosmic energy & find a little more bliss; that it inspires you to enlighten up a little more each day.
