it’s tuesday, october 6, & moon is in taurus, in the starspace called rohini. watery moon loves being in earthy taurus, where it feels grounded, which means our consciousness feels grounded, supported, our emotional body feels calm, contained, held, cuddled even. we feel safe here, content to just be & enjoy. the highest expression of taurus is santosha, one of the five niyamas, or guidelines for being with ourselves, in yoga philosophy. if you don’t know what that means, you can, as my managing editor at the new york times always used to say, look it up. that’s what google is for!
rohini means “reddish one” or “growing one.” the color red invokes passion, warmth & prosperity; growing, creativity & fertility; the “one” is the cosmic goddess. we manifest through shakti, the expression of goddess energy, of the divine feminine. the question here is whether we can create without attachment, whether we can create something of enduring value, something that’s eternal, rather than something that’s material & won’t last.
it’s the fifth phase of the waning moon, which is connected to the healing power of, yes, goddess energy. creativity & medicinal cures are supported—one heals the soul, the other the body. what’s your favorite medicine? a walk in the woods? a bath? a cleanse? making art? kitchari?
mars rules tuesday & is retrograde now, which means he appears to be moving backward in the sky. when planets are retrograde it’s easier for us to feel into their energy. so with mars retrograde we may be more in touch with our anger (not surprising these days!). rather than just being angry, this is a time to investigate the root causes of our anger, to get under the hood & see what nastiness has taken root there rather than drive headlong down a road to who knows where & create who knows what kind of unpleasantness. it is said that grief is the root of anger, so it’s a good time (we have until november 13) to ask ourselves what we feel we lost or are losing, to be with the sadness rather than the anger.
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a kind of lunar weather report. the moon is our consciousness & i hope that by unpacking the cosmic forces influencing it every day, you’ll be better able to understand & thus lean into its ever-changing vibrations & use them to your advantage.
