it’s friday, october 7, & moon is in aquarius, in the starspace called purvabhadra. aquarius is the sign of the collective & is represented by a (hu)man holding an empty pot. “most of the trouble in the world is caused by people wanting to be important,” said t.s. eliot. the emptiness of the pot can be seen as being empty of ego, our sense of self-importance, which allows us to be joyfully, selflessly, of service, to give of ourselves for the mere pleasure of it, not for ego gratification. of course, the key is to be able to give without feeling like a martyr, like a, well, servant, to not be begrudging.
purvabhadra is the lightning flash of “aha, i am not this body or this mind” & thus brings a lesson about our true nature. “when your obscuring mental constructs fall away, you automatically see yourself as you really are: a free being of blissful consciousness, playing with your powers of intent, understanding, & action,” writes chris wallis in tantra illuminated. “there comes a flash of recognition: you are a microcosmic expression of precisely the same divine powers that create, maintain, & dissolve the whole universe.” wow! could be a mind-blowing, soul-expanding day!
it’s the thirteenth lunar day, the thirteenth phase of the waxing moon (full moon alert for sunday!), which is, imo, a delightful tithi (lunar phase) for the moon to be in on a friday, b/c friday is owned by venus & this lunar phase has a venusian quality to it, as it supports doing what we love, what brings us pleasure, especially, but not necessarily, with the ones we love. of course, love for others starts with love for ourselves—the harder we love us, the harder we can love others—so, yeah, feel free to get your self-love on today, enjoy being you with you!
friday is ruled by venus, planet of love, our desire to be in relationship & delight in our earthly existence with others. “love is seeing god in the person next to you,” said sri sri ravi shankar. with venus combust in critical virgo for a wee bit longer, we may be feeling challenged in that area of life, so it would behoove all of us to heed sri sri’s words.
