it’s monday, october 13, & moon is in gemini, in the starspace called punarvasu. gemini vibrates with the frequency of eagerness (it is a rajasic sign), curiosity (it is an air sign) & mental stimulation (it is ruled by thinky mercury). gemini is the third sign of the natural zodiac, which is associated with our ego identity, our sense of self. it is where our eagerness, curiosity & mental faculties come into play to figure out & finesse who we are in the fields of competition, ideas, sports, the arts. understanding who we are is a lifelong project, a project of endless trials & errors, of dead ends & never ends. where might that project, that journey take you today?

punarvasu means “return of the light” & reminds us of the cyclicity of life; that, for example, not only does the sun rise every morning & shine all day long, but it always comes out after a storm, that storms—inner & outer—don’t last forever. b/c of its “coming around again” nature, this asterism reminds us that we do get second (& sometimes third) chances & brings a sense of renewal & vitality, gives us the ability to get up & go again. so go!

it’s the eighth lunar day (tithi), the eighth phase of the waning moon, which is the halfway point in moon’s journey from full to new, from bright to dark (or, on the flip side, from new to full, dark to bright). this tithi supports us in paying attention to & embracing both/all sides of us—the qualities we’re proud of as well as those we’re not so proud of, maybe even ashamed of, want to keep hidden; the things we love about our life & eagerly celebrate & those not so much.

“pay attention. it’s all about paying attention. it’s all about taking in as much of what’s out there as you can, & not letting the excuses & the dreariness of some of the obligations you’ll soon be incurring narrow your lives. attention is vitality. it connects you with others. it makes you eager. stay eager.”—susan sontag in her 2003 commencement speech at vassar

can you let your shadow qualities expand, rather than narrow, you, your experience of self? can you eagerly invite all, be all?

monday is ruled by gentle moon, planet of connection, who feels the likeness of one & all, rather than the differences among us. it’s a good day to focus on others, to use your precious faculties of attention to unite rather than divide.

& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
