it’s wednesday, february 4, moon is in leo, in the starspace called pūrvaphālgunī for a wee bit longer, then uttaraphālgunī, it’s the third then the fourth tithi & it’s mercury’s day.

leo, the sign of our personal power, is opposite aquarius, the sign of the people, the masses, humanity. this axis suggests that we don’t wield our power for our own sake, for self-aggrandizement, but for the sake of others, or at least with others in mind. that doesn’t mean we have to go out & save the world (unless we want to!), just that we don’t get to ruin it for others, step on others, disempower them, red-light them.

at the least (& perhaps the most), we are meant to shine as examples, so others feel empowered to shine as well, give them the green light to do so.

i remember way back when i was starting to teach yoga, my teacher, always very circumspect about her choice of words, telling us to be mindful about using the word help, that we can’t help anyone, that thinking we can, or that anyone “needs” our help, is egotistical. that may have been splitting hairs, but. …

“whenever anyone tells me that they want to write a book in order to help other people, i always think ‘oh, please don’t. please don’t try to help me.’ i mean, it’s very kind of you to help people, but please don’t make it your sole creative motive b/c we will feel the weight of your heavy intention, & it will put a strain upon our souls.”—elizabeth gilbert, from big magic

or, you might say: the best thing we can do for others is to be our best selves.

uttaraphālgunī (see yesterday’s post for pūrva) is ruled by aryaman, who blesses contracts made with the best interests of both/all parties in mind, is the fulfillment of, the ripening of, the fruit (phālgunī) we were offered/tasted in the prior nakshatra. we date, dally & delight in pūrva to figure out whether we will match for all times (or for as far into the future as we can see) with someone, & if we make the right choice the fruit will be juicy as all get-out.

it’s the third lunar day (tithi), the third phase of the waning moon, until almost noon MST, then the fourth, so we’ll get to see how flexi we can be this morning, how quickly &/or gracefully we can pivot if need be, then how quickly &/or gracefully we can leap over hurdles, not flinch in the face of them, not balk, not hesitate, just tuck our legs under us like horses approaching a high hedge & sail right the “f” over. ez-pz!

wednesday is ruled by mercury, who gives us our powers (to a greater or lesser extent, depending) of discriminating intelligence & communication, is really good at splitting hairs, parsing facts, helping (!) us choose our words carefully.

& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
