it’s monday, august 4, & moon is in scorpio, in the starspace called jyeṣṭḥā. scorpio vibrates with the frequency of our emotional/psychological discomfort. it’s where moon, which is our consciousness, is debilitated, powerless, feels at sea, unable to get her bearings. so we can’t get them either & are most vulnerable to our worst fears & paranoias. rather than thrash about, which is generally the worst response to danger, it’s best to get quiet, become the eye in our emotional storm, calm the eff down, slow the breath, observe, get curious, ask what lesson we can learn from what’s arisen.

b/c the bogeyman is not out there, coming to get us, but in our heads.

scorpio, our discomfort zone, is opposite taurus, our comfort zone. we are always toggling between the two. my lama used to say that we are either in a crisis or between crises, isn’t it? our work is to be able to toggle back & forth with equanimity, know that whatever arises will fall, & vice versa.

“the ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in a moment of comfort & convenience, but where he stands in moments of challenge & controversy.”—martin luther king, jr.

jyeṣṭḥā means “eldest” or “chiefmost” & is ruled by indra, the chiefmost of the gods, & gives us the power to rise & keep rising, to keep perfecting ourselves, achieve our highest ambitions. the key is to not get soooo focused on perfection that we become fixated on what isn’t perfect & destory our peace of mind. if that’s you, try regulating your nervous system with, um, meditation.

it’s the eleventh lunar day (tithi), the eleventh phase of the waxing moon, when the mind is said to be the least distracted & so the best able to connect to the ineffable, which is why it’s a good day for spiritual practices like meditation. a client once asked for meditation advice. i’m not a meditation teacher, & hardly an expert, but i shared with him what works for me: be consistent, as in same time & same place every day; be realistic, as in don’t expect to sit for an hour when you first start, make your practice manageable, allow it to evolve; & remember that it’s a practice, not a perfect.

monday is ruled by moon, who wants everyone to feel good. it’s a good day to make it a good day.

& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
