it’s friday, september 18, & moon is in virgo, in the starspace called hasta. virgo is the sign of the virgin, of purity, of innocence, of perfection—of unsullied innocence. it is where we can become preoccupied with perfection. as anne lamott has said, “perfection is the voice of the oppressor.” or as my teacher sam geppi said recently in a video, “the only thing we can perfect is our understanding.” as in, our understanding, & thus acceptance, of the fact that perfection is elusive & illusive. there’s no such thing. going after it is a sisyphean quest. don’t go down that rabbit hole.
hasta means “hand” & the constellation itself consists of five stars that can be seen as the five fingertips of a hand, of an open hand, or as the rays of the sun. we create, we manifest, we heal with our hands & then offer that creation with open palms, release it, send it out into the world. the open hand reminds us not to have any claim on our creation, that we don’t own it, that we are just the vehicle through which creation takes place. we put ourselves in god’s hands & god puts the result in ours & then we offer it up & out. massage therapists & reiki practitioners do this all the time & often have some connection to this asterism in their charts.
speaking of manifestation, it’s the second lunar day, the second phase of the waxing moon, which invites us to use our powers of creativity to bring some structure to our lives, to something that we can build on & that will sustain us. if it were spring, i’d say it’s a good day to build raised beds in your garden, but it’s not, so i’ll leave it to you & your own powers of inspiration!
venus rules friday. venus is our pleasure principle, our delight in being embodied with five senses. venus wants us to use them to enjoy ourselves, to nourish ourselves—to listen to enchanting music, eat delicious food, gaze at sublime art, inhale the scent of jasmine, bask in the touch of another.
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a kind of lunar weather report. the moon is our consciousness & i hope that by unpacking the cosmic forces influencing it every day, you’ll be better able to understand & thus lean into its ever-changing vibrations & use them to your advantage.
