it’s wednesday, september 1, & moon is in gemini, in the starspace called ardra. gemini vibrates with the frequency of two as one, of opposites coming together. its sanskrit name, mithuna, means “paired, forming a couple,” also “sexual union, copulation, cohabitation.” as relational beings, we want to merge with another, that’s what sex is all about on a metaphysical level. we want to feel whole, embody our masculine & our feminine, know ourselves, experience ourselves, in our entirety. but even though we can never merge completely, the act of trying allows us to know ourselves better, for it is only in relationship, by having someone be our mirror, that we can know ourselves at all.
ardra brings storm energy, the kind of storm that clears the air. the kind of storm that washes away all the fire smoke in the air, which is so thick where i am it’s like los angeles back in the day when you couldn’t see the mountains from a mile away. ardra reminds us how clean the air smells & looks after the storm, reminds us that destroying what’s old or no longer serves creates room for something new.
it’s the tenth lunar day, the tenth phase of the waning moon, which is connected to our dharma, our right purpose in life. if we always did what was right, how would we know when it wasn’t, when it was wrong? it’s a good day to course correct if you’ve taken a “wrong” dharmic turn. (course, we can never be wrong; it’s all part of our journey.)
mercury, who rules wednesday, is in virgo, his sign of exaltation, these days, which means he is operating with utmost intelligence. what does this mean for you & me? well, mercury gives us our ability to communicate, to share ideas, to give & take with our words. so the next few weeks are an opportunity to examine (virgo loves details!) whether we are actually communicating with others, whether it’s a two-way street: are you so attached to the stories swirling in your head about what the other person is saying that you can’t really hear them when they talk? do you actually listen to them, listen to learn? or do you listen just so you can respond?
