it’s monday, september 30, & moon is in the nakshatra called swati, which is what you might call a subdivision of libra, the way, say, soho is a subdivision of manhattan. that’s how the nakshtras roll, further carving up the stellar-sphere to fine-tune each constellation’s energy. libra’s energy in general is about being in harmonious relationship with others, whether sharing the good things in life with those near & dear or keeping a business or sports team running smoothly by making sure everyone’s needs are met, including our own. can you spell s-y-m-b-i-o-t-i-c? has to be good for everyone or libra isn’t happy. you might make give something up, but it has to be good for you on some level. we are not talking unconditional love here; we’re talking making good deals. we are talking compromise.
swati is ruled by vayu, the god of the wind. you’ve got your outer winds, the ones that, for example, scatter seeds & transport ideas around the world to connect people. & you’ve got your inner winds, the ones that transport your life force, prana, throughout your body, keep you alive & connect you to all that is eternal.
according to yogic tradition, we are each born with a finite amount of prana, although we don’t know how much, so it’s up to us to maximize it. which is why we have pranayama, breathing practices that teach us how to control & extend our breath, how to, for example, take deeper, slower breaths—the longer we can make our breaths last, the longer we can live! & the more control we can bring to our breath, the more control we bring to our thoughts (thoughts ride on the breath), which is where meditation comes in. thoughts lead to words lead to actions—our actions are the most external expression of our internal winds. how are you using your prana? how do your actions reflect that?
it’s the second day of the waxing moon, which makes it a good day to manifest with the intention of creating a more comfortable earthly existence.
monday is owned by the moon, who invites us to tap into & trust our heart energy, aka intuition. it’s also navaratri & rosh hashanah, so gratitude to the goddesses (jai ma!) & a sweet, happy new year (shana tova!) to those celebrating.
