it’s thursday, september 5, & moon is still in emotionally turbulent scorpio but has moved into the starspace called anuradha. scorpio is where our darkest fears live, where our paranoias, once barely visible on the horizon, swell into massive waves, cresting above us as tall as skyscrapers. as a kid in los angeles, i spent a lot of time at the beach. i liked to swim out to the waves, practically taunting them to come get me. then i’d dive right into them (ok, they weren’t as tall as the chrysler building!) or hold my breath & drop down beneath, waiting for them to break & then ebb toward shore. sometimes i got sucked too far down or spun around & had trouble getting my bearings & getting back to the surface quickly enough. scorpio invites us to not get freaked out by the violent commotion of our emotional waters but to get curious, observe, transform them through devotion.
which is where anuradha comes in. anuradha means “a little” or “after” radha, who was krishna’s most loyal friend, the ur-devotée. this asterism is inviting us to be a little like radha, to go after her, follow in her footsteps. & it is ruled by the deity mitra, whose name literally means “friend” or “companion” or “ally.” mitra is the one who stands beside us & supports us in time of need like a bff. devotion comes from tapping into our heart energy & sometimes all it takes to go there is a compassionate word from a good friend or their shoulder to lean on, allowing us to relax, surrender, trust, soften around our heart. who is that person for you? who are you that person to?
it’s the eighth lunar day, which is connected to the eight vasus, the creative forces of life. what we create is based on our values. what do you value most? is your creativity, what you manifest, in alignment with your highest values?
thursday is ruled by jupiter, who is cozying up to the moon today & tomorrow, infusing our consciousness with god’s grace, that sense that someone or something has our back, who smoothes the choppy waters of scorpio.
